Facts
Dreams With Wings is a Louisville non-profit that provides
quality community-based residential housing and support
services to individuals with mental retardation, developmental
disabilities and autism. It is our mission to empower these
individuals as they recognize their strengths, contribute
to their community and pursue their dreams.
Our services include community based residential housing,
therapies, continuing life skills training, job coaching
and placement, inclusive day programs and leisure outreach.
Dreams With Wings was founded in 2000 because of a need
to provide these quality services in our community. We
began with a $25,000 grant and served 4 people. Today we
are one of the regions largest providers of comprehensive
services and are recognized for raising the standard of
services around the state.
Dreams With Wings is set apart philosophically by our
firm belief in the capabilities of each of our clients
to live productive, inclusive lives. They give back to
the community through volunteering efforts such as Meals
on Wheels deliveries, maintaining a Brightspot for the
city and working at the Humane Society.
We are funded primarily by Medicaid but because this is
often unreliable, subject to change, and compensation has
no direct correlation between actual expenses and reimbursement,
we must constantly seek other funding sources. We have
worked diligently to build a solid foundation for smart
growth and we strive for sustainable economic strength.
DWW clients have jobs though our Supported Employment
Program at O’Shea’s, The Galt House, Minuteman Press, Wal-Mart
and Target.
Seventy-four cents of every dollar donated to DWW goes
directly to fund our innovative programs and services.
And 85% of every donation goes back to the contributor
in the form of a tax deduction.
Dreams With Wings was a 2007 Torch Award Winner from the
Better Business Bureau for Marketplace Ethics. Dreams With
Wings serves over 100 clients and has 51 full time and
21 part time employees.
